Insurance
Do You Accept Insurance?
My practice is rooted in providing care that honors your privacy, autonomy, and cultural context—without the limitations and oversight imposed by most insurance companies.
That’s why I’ve chosen to remain out-of-network for the majority of plans. Insurance often requires:
A mental health diagnosis that becomes part of your permanent health record.
Restrictions on the length, type, or frequency of care.
Access to your therapy notes, which compromises your confidentiality.
In addition to these limitations, I’m mindful of the increasing political and administrative barriers within insurance systems—barriers that disproportionately affect BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized communities. I can’t in good conscience build a practice dependent on those systems.
An Intentional Exception: Aetna via Headway
I am in-network with some Aetna plans through Headway. While this doesn’t reflect a full endorsement of the insurance model, it’s one way I can strategically offer more affordable care while still upholding the values that guide this practice.
If you have an Aetna plan, we can explore whether Headway can support your care. Otherwise, I remain an out-of-network provider for all other plans.
What This Means for You
Choosing to invest in therapy without insurance gives us the freedom to work in a way that’s private, flexible, and tailored to your needs—not insurance mandates.
If you’d like to explore out-of-network benefits, I’m happy to provide a Superbill—an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
That said, it’s important to know that:
Most insurance companies require a formal diagnosis to process out-of-network claims and this diagnosis will need to be documented on your Superbill.
Coverage may be limited by session caps or other restrictions.
Reimbursement is not guaranteed—decisions are ultimately made by your insurance provider.
I strongly recommend contacting your insurer directly to understand your out-of-network benefits, what documentation they require, and any limitations they may impose. Tools like Thrizer or Mentaya can also help simplify this process.
Equity Pricing
I offer some reduced-fee spots to make therapy more accessible—especially for those with limited income or who hold historically oppressed identities. These offerings reflect my commitment to equity and are rooted in trust: proof of income is never required, and we mutually determine the rate together during our consultation.
If a reduced-fee spot is available and working together feels like the right fit, we’ll begin with an initial 6-month term, with space to check in and reassess your rate over time. Life changes, and your rate can too. I invite clients to revisit this conversation at any point in our work together.
Reduced-fee rates are based on a three-tiered equity model, inspired by Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s framework for self-assessing financial privilege. Please reflect on your circumstances and level of privilege when determining if equity pricing is right for you.
Equity Pricing Tiers:
Tier 1: $130
Tier 2: $110
Tier 3: $90
Reduced-fee spots are offered on a limited basis and may not always be available. Openings are offered based on fit, need, and timing—not first come, first served.
Payment
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX) &/or HSA/FSA cards. For those clients wanting to use their HSA/FSA, I ask that a back-up card is also provided. There are times when the funds available do not fully cover the cost of a session and the system I use is not set up to split payment between multiple cards. Prior to using your HSA/FSA, please contact your provider to determine if those funds may be used for mental health care.
